Make a Date with a Paper Plate!
They’ll do double duty if you...
When you’re eating on the run, paper plates can save you a whole lot of cleanup time. But that’s not the only way these disposable, sturdy helpers can come to your aid. Here’s just a small sampling of other stunts that paper plates can perform for you:
Catch paint drips
. Time to paint a ceiling or some crown molding? Before you start, poke a hole in a paper plate, push your brush handle though it, and secure it with duct tape. Then you can be sure that the paint will dribble onto the paper and not onto your head, your hand, and/or your shirt.
Cushion your china
. When ceramic plates are stacked on a shelf or in a cabinet, the bottom of one can scratch the surface of the plate below. To keep that from happening, put inexpensive paper plates between them. While you’re at it, put paper plates inside large skillets so you can stack another pot or pan in each one without damaging the nonstick surfaces.
Play the learning game
. Flash cards are great teaching aids for young children (or even for adults who are learning a foreign language), but they can work even better if you spice up the action. How? Just write or draw the relevant letters, numbers, shapes, or works on paper plates. When the student gets the answer right, he or she can celebrate by flinging the plate across the room, Frisbee®-style.
Win the sweepstakes
. The contest instructions say “Mail in your entry on a 3” x 5” card,” but you don’t have one. So make one in a flash by cutting a 3- x 5-inch rectangle from the center of a paper plate. It’s that easy. (And good luck winning!)
